The National Society of the Children of the American Revolution (N.S.C.A.R.) is the nation’s oldest, largest, patriotic youth organization and offers membership to anyone under the age of twenty two, lineally descended from someone who rendered material aid to the cause of American Independence as a soldier, sailor, civil officer, or recognized patriot in one of the several Colonies or States, or of the United States. N.S.C.A.R. activities focus on patriotism, service, and education about our American heritage.
Button Gwinnett SAR Sponsorship
The N.S.C.A.R. is an independent organization which looks to the SAR, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and the Sons of the Revolution (SR) for its leadership and financial support. The N.S.C.A.R. needs adult leaders, financial support, and members. An SAR member may hold a “senior” office in the N.S.C.A.R. at the local, state, regional, or national levels of the society. The N.S.C.A.R. needs senior leaders at all levels, but particularly at the local level. Senior leaders benefit N.S.C.A.R. by implementing their knowledge and skills gained from professions and affiliations with other youth programs.
The Compatriots of Button Gwinnett SAR sponsor the Elisha Winn C.A.R. Society in Lawrenceville, Georgia. As this society was organized in 2018, the Button Gwinnett SAR Chapter President John Goodwin challenged the Elisha Winn members to:
- Have FUN!
- Learn a little (history, government, anything you can).
- Have FUN!
- Make new friends (in your society and in others).
- Have FUN!
- Teach a little (pass it on).
- Have FUN!
- Serve others
- Have FUN!
The Elisha Winn C.A.R. year focuses on opportunities for the members to gather to learn and serve rather than on calendared meetings. Membership Eligibility
Any boy or girl under the age of twenty-two is eligible for membership in the National Society of the Children of the American Revolution who is lineally descended from a man or woman who, with unfailing loyalty, rendered material aid to the cause of American Independence as a soldier, sailor, civil officer, or recognized patriot in one of the several Colonies or States, or of the United States, provided that the applicant is personally acceptable to the Society. N.S.C.A.R. members gain invaluable leadership experience in conducting meetings, following parliamentary protocol, serving as delegates, and speaking before groups at local, state, regional, and national conferences.
N.S.C.A.R. members who would like to transfer their membership to the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (N.S.C.A.R. or SAR) when they are between the ages of eighteen and twenty-two should contact their local SAR chapter or state-level society liaison for further details on that process. If the N.S.C.A.R. member has relatives who are already approved members of the SAR, then that N.S.C.A.R. member may be eligible for a discounted application fee. Annual dues and fees for SAR membership and the transfer process may differ between locations.
SAR Coaching and Encouragement
Interested SAR members may apply to recognize their collaborative efforts and involvement with our C.A.R. liaison officer who focuses on support and encouragement to this very worthwhile youth organization. Our experiences coupled with our financial support help build better opportunities for the leaders of the future.
