Requirements for Joining the SAR
- You must be a citizen of good repute in the community.
- You must be the lineal descendant of an ancestor who was at all times unfailing in loyalty to the cause of American independence and who rendered acceptable service.
- Each generation in line of descent must be supported with acceptable documents.
Application Process
The application for membership in the Sons of the American Revolution must be submitted using an SAR approved form. Your Button Gwinnett Chapter Registrar will complete this form for you from the documentation and ancestral information that you provide. As an aide for the Registrar, you may use this official SAR worksheet for outlining your lineage and supporting documents. After the formal application is completed by the Registrar, you will review it for completeness and accuracy, sign it, and pay the application fee. The application package will then be sent to the State Registrar and finally to the National Registrar. If there is missing information, we will contact you. The Chapter, State, and National Registrars all check applications and proofs for approval.
